A recap to 2011 :

So, 2011 is finally over! One of the longest years of my life, I should say. Started 2011 with so much anxiety about life. Sailed through my final semester and graduated in May 2011. Found that Masters was easier than my Undergraduate program. I am sure some people would kill me seeing this.

The next most important thing was the job search. Started applying way too late, but got a lot of calls. Screwed up most of them and finally, July 15th 2011 was the day I got a job offer from Cerner Corporation. Excited. Joined on the 8th of August. That's another important date, to be bookmarked in my memories! Then a series of unfortunate events and recovering from those, BOOM! 2011 is gone!

Hi 2012 :

Spent the New Year 2012 almost the same way in which I spent the New Year 2011. In a friend's house, with a few friends, something not many people would enjoy on a New Year, but I did.

The New Year's day was even better! We finally decided on a plan! Seriouslyyyy we did! Met one of my close friends of the recent times, and had a great time with a bunch of fun-loving people! A nice drive to Lawrence to pick up my best pal (also happened to be my 7.5 shenny :P) and her friends. Came back to Overland Park and had a mexican lunch, then moved on to a very slow movie, "War Horse" in which the only thing that was fast was a horse, sadly the screenplay was crawling! Then moved on to the temple where we were left with the disappointment of getting no prasadhams. :( Then, drove back to Lawrence to drop my friends and back home! Nice start to 2012! Ah and well! Man city lost! YYYaaaYYY! Hoping that India show some grit and determination in bouncing back at Sydney today! GOD - 100th 100 pls! :) & Yeah! 354 days to go for the Doomsdayy! :D Happy new year everyone! And after 3 long years, I am finally back to blogging!

SlumDog Millionaire - A review..

Its been a long long time since I blogged on something. To be precise, its been 112 days since I blogged over here. So, finally, decided to break the shackles by posting a review on the latest much hyped movie SlumDog Millionaire.

The movie has already driven a really huge fan following after it won four Golden Globe awards this year. AR Rahman made us proud by winning the Golden Globe award for the best original score. The movie has been doing well in the box office and already it has been nominated for many awards for the Oscar 2009.

The movie basically is nothing but a 120 minute long film on all the negatives in India. The director Danny Boyle has shown the World about the black spot in India. Although there are many countries which are even more downtrodden when compared to India, Danny has chosen India just because here is the place where you can do anything and everything. You can mock at Indians and abuse Indians and we Indians never really care about those stuff. It is a real shame that the Indians, after watching the movie, are appreciating it but not thinking about why our country is like this. I have seen a dozen reviews which hail this as a great movie but the title in itself says what people in other part of the World think about our country.

The movie is basically about a guy from a slum area in Aamchi Mumbai who participates in the "Who wants to be a millionaire" show and wins the 20million rupees. Mainly focussed on showing the sufferings and sorrow of the people in the OTHER part of our country, this movie also shows about the destiny of the lovers who are separated in their childhood. But, as the director has showed in this movie, a person in a slum needn't be a "Know Nothing" fellow. And definitely he needn't be compared to a Dog. In fact, the world's most intelligent people hail from this amazing country called India and it is one fact that the director should be reminded of. I appreciate Danny Boyle's idea in portraying the miseries faced by slum-dwellers. But, I would have even more appreciated if he did something good for the betterment of the slum dwellers instead of minting money which he has generated through this movie.

In a particular scene where Jamal has to answer the 1 million rupees question, the host Prem(Anil Kapoor) suggests the wrong answer to Jamal during the break. It is later shown that he did that because he wanted to be the Hero of the show and that is why he gave the wrong answer to Jamal. I mean no host would have such an attitude and jealosy towards a guy winning a million rupees. Mr.Danny Boyle!! You have exaggerated a lot in this movie and still you are able to generate the revenue you wanted!! Thats the Generous India for you!! Jai Ho!!!

Bottomline: SlumDog Millionaire - An attempt to portray the OTHER part of India in the worst possible way!!

After a long gap, its again time for a red hot review of a movie and I had been waiting for a long time to watch a decent movie and I just did that yesterday.
Saroja - A good attempt by the successful Chennai-28 crew and once again, they have emerged victorious.

The movie starts off with a song featuring Saroja who forms the crux of the story and that is the simple reason why the movie is titled so. And the next few scenes has the bubbling youth of Premji, Charan, Siva and Vaibhav rocking all the way. They start from Chennai to watch a Cricket match that is going to be held in Hyderabad. They go on a van and because of an accident, their travel is halted. So, they go in another route which Shiva says, is the short route. And then whatever adventure and action that they face forms the rest of the story. Premji is a jolly go lucky cricket fan with a great affinity towards love and Cupid strikes every time he sees a girl. Charan works in a company and is married and also has a child. His brother Vaibhav is a vetti guy who often whiles away time with his niece. And then there is Siva who is a TV serial actor. Meantime, Prakashraj is a millionaire and his only daughter is Saroja. She goes missing one day and Jayaram is the Asst Commissioner of Police who offers to help Prakashraj in finding out Saroja. What happens to Saroja??? Did they find her out? This is the story. With this simple storyline, the director, with good cinematography and background score to support him, has made this wonderful thriller cum comedy movie and this is indeed a successful attempt. The music by Yuvan adds to the success of the movie with most of the songs with its feet tapping music keeping the viewers engrossed.

* The comedy sequences involving Siva and Premji Amaran rock!!
* The Background score is good and gives the much needed feel that a thriller movie demands!!

* The initial few scenes are a bit too complex and it takes some time to know what the movie is all about.

Overall, a neat movie with good performances from everyone involved to provide a visual treat to the movie hungry audience.

The day was clear and the match started 30minutes earlier. Srilankans Mahela Jayawardene and Warnapura started from where they had left. Both played well and carved out brilliant centuries. Warnapura scored 115 off 202 balls with the help of 14 4's and finally got out off the bowling off Harbhajan Singh. So, when it looked that Indians could make a decent comeback, Samaraweera joined hands with J'wardene and both made sure that Indians never had any chance to come back in this match. J'wardene scored a masterful 136 and was scalped by Ishant Sharma. But by then, the damage had already been done for India. Samaraweera was unbeaten on 111 with Dilshan giving him company on 20. Srilanka were 422-4 at stumps on day 2.

India vs Srilanka 1st test

The 1st test between India and Srilanka commenced yesterday. The torrential rains in Sri Lanka made sure that the match got delayed by a few hours. So, the match started around 4 hours late. So, Srilanka batted first and were immediately put on the back foot by some accurate bowling by Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan. Vandort and Sangakkara got out early. At the end of the first day, thanks to a timely unbeaten half-century by Warnapura, the Srilankans moved to 85-2. So, The 2nd day is going to be an engrossing day as the Indians will be looking to get the Srilankans all out for beow 300 where as the Srilankans will be looking to consolidate and make a winning first innings score.

Chennai Crazy Fliers match 3

After winning 2 consecutive matches, we were extremely confident that we could make it 3 in a row in the Blue sky league tournament. We faced United CC in our 3rd match and it took place at MG college ground in Mogappair. They won the toss and elected to field first. For the first time, we had to set a target. We were on course because of a stunning 62 run opening wicket partnership in just 42 balls provided by Ramesh and Srivaths. but, Ramesh was the first wicket to fall. Then, Srivaths got out unfortunately. After that it was like a deck of cards. We fumbled like 9 pins and thanks to a last wicket partnership between the Tiruvallur guys Raja and Kumar, we got to a decent score of 135 in 20 overs. We thought it was a competitive total by all means. But, as me and the other medium pacers sans Vasanth anna were unable to find the right length and line, their openers simply flayed us to all parts of the boundaries. Then, Arvind scalped 3 quick wickets but it was not of much use as they romped home with an over to spare. Finally, Chennai crazy fliers slumped to our first defeat and this came as a wake up call for our team. Hope we perform better in our next few matches.

Chennai Crazy Fliers match 2

After winning the first match, we, the Chennai Crazy fliers were on a high. We were confident of winning our next match too. So, in our 2nd match we faced the Krishna Sweets. They won the toss and elected to bat first. Their opening batsman looked to be the only threat for us. And as expected, I got on the wrong side of him, as I went for a few runs in my 2nd over. But, Shiva took his prized wicket and after that, Vivek and Srivaths bowled brilliantly as wickets kept tumbling at their end and finally they were bundled out for 109 in their stipulated 20 overs. In reply, we started pretty badly when Murali was out first ball. Then Srivathsan and Vivek steadied the ship. Srivaths got out shortly. Vasanth anna joined Vivek and together they brought the side to the brink of victory when vasanth anna got run out. But, Vivek made sure that there was no further loss of wickets as he and ramesh finished things off with around 5 overs to spare. And we, the Chennai Crazy Fliers won by a confortable 7 wicket margin.

Music is one thing that keeps me happy most of the time. It relieves me from all the depression and worries that I have had to undergo at times. So, in the last few weeks, a bunch of good movies have released their audio. Having heard all the songs in these movies, in this post, I would like to do a review on which is the best musical movie according to me. The audio released for the movies Jeyam Kondaan, Sakkarakatti, Kuselan, Dhaam Dhoom and Saroja. My top 5 are in the following order :

No 5 -> Kuselan featuring Pasupathy, Meena, Rajnikanth and Nayanthara. Music is done by the young GV Prakash. This movie was initially slated to be a Pasupathy starrer and Rajni playing a cameo role. But, its now a Rajni starrer. But, sadly, the music of the movie doesn't impress much. The song Cinema Cinema by Shankar Mahadevan sounds good. Also on the melody side, Chaaral thooral by Shreya Goshal soothes our ears.

No 4 -> Jeyam Kondaan featuring Vinay, Bhavana and Lekha Washington. Music is being handled by Vidyasagar. Almost all the songs are melodies which suggest that this movie is an out and out musical movie. Adai Mazhai Kalam sung by Karthik, Adhai Koodava by Shreya Goshal and Ore Or naal by Benny Dhayal are some songs that impress me in this movie.

No 3 -> Saroja starring a part of the Chennai 28 team. The music is being handled by the inimitable Yuvan Shankar Raja who has been providing a youthful music for a long time now. The first song that comes to my mind is ITS MY LIFE sung by Tanvi. Its the first song with english lyrics from start to end. It rocks because of the voice which the girl renders. Then, I liked Dosth Bada Dosth sung by Haricharan, Naveen and Rahul Nambiar. Then, the other songs are also good to hear and although some of them may resemble the same genre, they are of course bearable to hear.

No 2 -> Sakkarakatti featuring Shanthanu, Ishitha and Vedika. Music is handled by the one and only King of Music AR Rahman. That is what makes the music special. All the songs carry the ARR magical touch in it. Although the songs aren't too overwhelming, in the songs released so far, this movie's songs sound better than others. That is what makes ARR so special. My favorite number from this movie is Taxi Taxi sung by the trio of Benny Dayal, Blaaze and Vivan Chaix. The songs sound western with pucca tamil lyrics and hence the song itself sounds westernized. My favorite melody from this song being Marudhaani sung by the latest sensation Madhushree whose voice resembles the sweet Sadhana Sargam. Also I miss you da comes in to my favorites list thanks to Chinmayi. This movie's songs may not be an out and out ARR feast. But, definitely, its an ARR mini tiffin. ;)

No 1 -> Dhaam Dhoom starring Jeyam Ravi and Kangana Ranaut. This one is a special one dedicated to the late director and cinematographer Jeeva. Harris Jeyaraj has given him the perfect homage by rendering one of his best music for this movie. As many as 5 songs impressed me in this movie. Starting with the melody. Sakiye by Bombay Jayashree, the rap genre Pudhu Pudhu sung by Suchitra and Benny Dayal, the male solo melodies Azhiyilae by Haricharan and Anbe En Anbe by Harish Raghavendra and finally the fast beat Thikku Thikku by Sayonara Philip and Benny Dayal, this movie's music is surely, according to me, the hit of the season.

A great outing finally...

It had been ages since we last went for an outing. So, we decided that we can go to Mahabalipuram - A tourist spot some 35kms from tambaram. As most of us had bikes with us, we decided to go in bike to Mahabalipuram. We had 4 bikes but 10 members. So, we tried for a bike with my friends but none of us were of much help. Finally, we got a bike from one of our college mates, Murugappan who was generous enough to lend his Discover 125cc to a reckless Samba. ( U hav great guts mate!!! ). So, we decided to assemble in Vandalur zoo by 12pm. Sriram and Seval were the first to come in a splendor at around 12.15pm. Then, Oi and Satti came at around 12.30pm. I joined them by around 12.35pm and Santhosh and Raja joined us by 12.40pm. Since Kudi was coming from nanganallur, he told that he would join us directly at kelambakkam. Samba as usual was late and hence, mahesh and samba asked us to start. So, Meself, satti and sano in my glamour(Triples). Oi with raja in his Max 100 and Sriram and Seval. We reached Kelambakkam in half an hour. But couldn't find Kudi. He called raja and told that he was waiting in Kelambakkam. But the hilarious part was that Kudi was waiting in Sholinganallur thinking that it was Kelambakkam. So, we told him to come to Kelambakkam.

Then, the 8 of us started the cruise. Then we halted at a place because Seval and Kudi decided that the place was good for photography. The road was free and only 1 or 2 cars buzzed past us now and then. So, we decided to take some snaps standing in the middle of the road. So, we took some snaps and then started off again. We reached Mahabalipuram in around half an hour. Another hilarious part was that, just when we entering M'puram, we were stopped by a man dressed like a bus conductor who waved at us asking us to stop. But ironically, none of us stopped and we simply paid no heed to his continous wavings. So, we entered the place and we got a glimpse of many foreigners who seemed to have settled there. We halted at a hotel Anandha Bhavan when Oi's bike called it quits. The clutch wire broke off. So, Kudi and Oi went to a mechanic nearby to buy a new wire and fit it. Meanwhile, Samba and Mahesh had also reached that place by now. Only after he came did we know that the man who stopped us was none other than the man who collected money to enter into Mahabalipuram since it was a tourist spot. ;)

Then, we all had lunch and went to our first spot which was the shore temple. We entered that and immedaitely the whole place was abuzz. The security kept on whistling at us because everytime one of us kept troubling him. Then, when we decided that it was boring enough in the shore temple and having taken enough snaps, we then went to beach. Seeing the water, Raja- The King in Water ran like a mad dog and dived splash into the beach without realising that he had his purse and mobile phone in the pockets. He came out with his mobile phone fully wet with a sheepish smile in his face. I really hope that the damn mobile is gone for good. ;) Then, all of us entered into the beach and we enjoyed like never before in the water. Seval was meanwhile busy taking snaps of all that was happening around, in the beach.

Then, at around 6pm, we decided that it was too late. So, all of us came out and changed. Then came Sampath anna's friends 2 of whom were foreigners. Kudi immedaitely recognized them and he began to talk with them. Then, we took some group snaps and then we also helped a beautiful, romantic couple by taking their snaps as per their request. Then, we started off and went straight to A2B. Had a sumptous dinner and drove off along the ECR. Inspite of Seval's repeated warnings that the route through Kelambakkam was unsafe because of lack of lights, I was the only one who took the route through Kelambakkam and half way through I realised that he was afterall correct. But, with no other go, I rode through the dark road and finally reached my home at around 9pm. It was overall a great day for all of us as we thorughly enjoyed the trip. Hoping for more such memorable trips before we end up fucked up to our pc's in a few months time.

The old rivalry has begun...

The old rivalry between England and South Africa has started again and it is now going to be a bit tougher. The 1st test match is scheduled to start today. It's going to be a damp week in St John's Wood. Near-incessant rain has forced both teams into the indoor nets for the past three days, and the covers have been camped on the wicket. Thursday, however, does promise to be sunny in places, and the phenomenal drainage of the Lord's outfield means that there may yet be more play than one could normally anticipate in such conditions. Nevertheless, if the match gets underway amid heavy cloud cover, it could well be a good time to bowl first. So, lets wait and watch the first day's play.

Kuselan release dates confirmed...

The Rajni-Nayanthara starrer Kuselan was scheduled to be released on August 15th. But, since thursday is a lucky day for Rajni, the movie's release dates have been preponed. Sources suggested that Kuselan is going to be released on July 31st. The movie which is a remake of the Malayalam movie Katha Parayumpol has Pasupathy and Meena in the lead and Rajni playing a cameo role which is expected to last for more than an hour. GV Prakash Kumar is the music director for the movie and the movie is directed by P Vasu.

Chennai Crazy Fliers fly high...

In our first league match in the Blue sky league which was against the team Templast, we won the match comfortably by 5 wickets. We won the toss and chose to field first. Many including the umpires were amazed at our decision because, usually in Blue sky league matches, the team which wins the toss bats first and piles up a mammoth score which is difficult to surpass. But, we the Chennai Crazy fliers chose to field instead. Our squad is:
1) Ramesh (captain cum wicket keeper)
2) Srivathsan
3) Murali
4) Vasanth
5) Hemakumar
6) Sambashiva
7) Raghavan
8) Shiva
9) Sathish
10) Vijay
11) Raja

The new ball was shared by me and Vasanth anna. I started off badly with a boundary off my first ball. But, later on, both of us bowled very well and we were able to remove the openers early. In the first 6 overs, we conceded just 18 runs and took 2 wickets. Then it was the turn of our spinners Raghi and Srivaths who bolwed amazingly well in tandem. The batsmen couldn't quite cope up with their spin and wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. The Templast team looked set to be bowled out for around 80 but their lower order hit some lusty blows off both the spinners and finally they were bundled out for 99 in 19.3 overs. Srivaths took 3 wickets and Raghi, Vasanth anna and meself took 2 wickets each. There was one runout. Raja was unlucky not to get any wicket but he bowled an amazing line and length that too on a consistent basis to control the score midway. So, chasing a target of 100, our openers Ramesh and Srivaths started off in a great fashion by amassing 21 runs in 2 overs. But, Srivaths tried one shot too many attempting to pull a not so short ball and eventually getting bowled. Ramesh was the next to go snicking one behind to the wicket keeper. Murali went in and got out in no time attempting to play an ambitious pull and getting himself caught at mid on. Vasanth anna meanwhile played sensibly at the other end. Hemkumar walked in at the fall of Murali's wicket. He looked to be in solid touch but was controversially run out thanks to some poor umpiring. He did not trouble the scorers. Samba walked in next. Both he and Vasanth anna put up a match winning partnership. Samba was at his menacing best hitting as many as 4 boundaries and Vasanth anna was not far off either. But when it all looke to be the end for the Templast, Samba got out caught and bowled after playing a well played 22. Raghi was sent in next and he played very sensibly along with Vasanth Anna. Raghi played singles and hit the odd balls for boundaries. Vasanth anna mean while was seeing the ball like a football. In the end, he ended the game in the 15th over with a straight six followed by a leg glance to the fine leg boundary to seal the match for the Chennai Crazy fliers. We reached the target of 100 in 14.3 overs. The Man of the Match award was won by Vasanth anna for his all round performance of 36*, 2-14 and also took 3 catches. So, we, the Chennai Crazy Fliers started our tourney with a win. Hope that we keep up the good form.

Asia cup updates...

In this version of the Asia Cup 08, only one team is in a winning streak right now and it is none other than Dhoni's Men in Blue. they have won matches against Hong Kong, Pakistan and today they beat Bangladesh pretty convincingly by 7 wickets. Raina has been in great touch in this series. He has amassed more than 300 runs in this Asia Cup and is now the leading run scorer. He has also won the man of the match award in all 3 matches in this Asia cup. He has also scored 2 centuries in this series so far in just 3 outings. So, he surely has made a great comeback into the Indian side. Gambhir is also in good touch and so is Sehwag. Even yuvraj and Dhoni are in fine nick. The 2 batting worries in the team are Uthappa and Rohit sharma. So, if India continues this formidable performance, then they can lay hands on the Asia cup this year. They now face another team that is unbeaten which is Srilanka. So, lets wait and see whether India can cross the Lankan hurdle.

Tremors in Chennai..

Yesterday it was a day when people in Chennai got into a panic because of tremors in their places. The meteorological department said in a news that some places around Chennai like Koyambedu, Kodambakkam and TNagar recorded tremors measuring upto 6.2 on the Richter scale. They also stated that this was because of the earthquake that shook the Andaman & Nicobar islands with the richter scale measuring around 6.7. So, this sudden tremor has shook the people but the department has asked the people not to panic or worry about this tremor.

Wimbledon time..

The first week at Wimbledon turned out to be an upset week for some of the top seeds as they unexpectedly crashed out of the best grand slam. It all started on day three when the Serb and World no3 Novak Djokovic was beaten convincingly in straight sets by Marat Safin 6-4, 7-6, 6-2. Then on Day four, one of the biggest upsets was made when my favorite Maria Sharapova lost miserably to unseeded Alla Kudryavsteva again in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Meanwhile former world no1 Andy Roddick was beaten by the young Serb Janko Tipsarevic 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6. Also Amelie Mauresmo was beaten by Serena Williams although this cannot be termed as an upset. And finally on Day 5, it was the turn of World no1 and French Open Champion Ana Ivanovic who was defeated by Zheng Jie 6-1 6-4. So, with most of the top seeds tumbling like nine pins, lets see what else does Wimbledon has in store for us.

In another couple of days time, we guys are going to play the first match of the blue sky league. It is our first tournament apart from the college match that we have played. We have paid 12000rs and joined this league. We have got 6 matches to prove ourselves. Our team is being captained by Ramesh of Tagore engg college. The people who are going to play from our college are, myself, Raja, Samba and Sathish. The other guys are going to be Ramesh's friends. We are hoping to play a good game and try to win as many matches as possible. This sunday its going to be our first game and its going to be held at AM Jain college grounds, Meenambakkam. The time isn't scheduled yet. So, I really hope that we will do our best.

Jeeva - The name itself means life. One of the best cinematographers that Kollywood so proudly treasured and boasted off. Its now almost an year since his demise due to cardiac arrest when he was shooting for his next movie Dhaam Dhoom in Russia. His death came as a shock for many people in the Kollywood industry as they had not lost a mere mortal but an amazing cinematographer who simply gave life to objects in his movies. Some of his movies like Unnale Unnale and Ullam Ketkume were hits in the box office and his latest venture Dhaam Dhoom is also a hi tech movie shot mainly abroad. But, because of his sudden death, his wife had donned the role of playing director in this movie and has taken the movie successfully. The music got released a few weeks back and it is an outright super hit thanks to the amazingly different tunes of Harris Jayaraj. So, lets hope this movie becomes a superhit and comes as a due respect to this great cinematographer.

The ICC will discuss the future of Zimbabwe cricket at their executive meeting in Dubai next week, according to David Morgan, the president-elect, speaking during the launch of the ICC World Twenty20 at Lord's.

Yesterday, Cricket South Africa cut its ties with Zimbabwe Cricket following further deterioration of the political situation. "The ICC has never concerned itself with how member countries are governed," Morgan said. "However, yesterday Cricket South Africa announced that they were scrapping bilateral contact with Zimbabwe Cricket.

"It has been decided to put Zimbabwe on the agenda of the executive board meeting of the ICC which takes place next Wednesday in Dubai."

The ICC has previously shown little inclination to make any strong statements on Zimbabwe, but recent events are likely to force their hand especially as South Africa have been long-time supporters of Zimbabwe.

"Cricket South Africa's decision yesterday is hugely significant," Morgan added. "Clearly they will want something done. They're very influential in terms of southern African cricket and Zimbabwe is part of that.

"Quite where the various members will stand on it I really don't know - all of this is new as of five o'clock yesterday."

Zimbabwe have been placed in group A of the ICC World Twenty20 but their participation in the event is in increasing doubt. If they have to be replaced a third Associate nation will be added to the tournament.

My favorite team the Netherlands got knocked out miserably in the quarter finals of the Euro 08 and their misfortune in the Euro championships continues. This time, they simply were in a rocking form in their league stage winning all 3 matches. But, they were outclassed by a young Russian team who simply were too good for the aging Dutch. No player except Sneijder caused any problems for the Russians. Where as, the Russians with their young and energetic boys ably coached by the shrewd Dutchman Guus Hiddink were simply too hot to handle for the Dutch Defenders. Van Nistelrooy scored the only goal for the Dutch taking the game into extra time after Poulochenko had earlier put the Russians in the lead. But, in the 2nd extra time, the Russians netted twice to seal the nail in the coffin for the Oranjes. Arashevin was amazing as he assisted a goal and in the end scored one himself. So, the Dutch challenge ended. Today its going to be another cracking encounter with the Spain taking on Italy.

The nerve wrackling Euro 2008 is into the 2nd phase and already 2 matches are over. The first match, the Big one, in which Portugal faced Germany, the Germans beat the Portuguese by 3-2 and stamped their authority in this Euro 08. The next match was played between Croatia and Turkey which ended in a tame draw 1-1. The next match is gonna be played between my favorites, the Nederlands and Russia today and I hope the Oranjes show what they are, after topping their group with 3 straight and convincing wins.

Dasavatharam - One of the mot hyped movies of the present genre and did it live upto the hype that it created?

The movie starts off in a different manner when Kamal narrates it in brief and it starts from the 12th century AD. The first Kamal is introduced in this scene and Asin and Napoleon also join the party in this first 15minutes which is completely based on the clash between Saivaites and the Vaishnavites. The opening scene itself shows the sheer class of the maestro of acting, Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan. Then, what follows for the next 2 hours forms the remaining part of the story. Its about finding a nuclear disaster in the form of a mini chip and destroying it as soon as possible to avoid environmental mishaps. The story is very short and so, I am not going to give out any spoilers in this review. Asin does well in her role as a brahmin girl and provides good timing comedies along with Kamal Hassan. The main Kamal characters that impress more in this movie are that of Vincent Poovaragan a reformer, Balram Naidu as a telugu speaking Police and of course the other characters churn well with the rest of the story. When it comes to the music part, the Kallai mattum kandal song amazes with its visual finesse and so does the Oh oh Sanam song which provides some feet tapping entertainment to the audience. Michael Westmore, who transformed Jim Carrey into The Mask, is the one who has handled the make up department. Six hours a day for Kamal is what was spent only on make up to get the right look for one of the characters and it was 4 hours for Napolean. The levels of perfection can only be imagined. The Visual Effects, too, had an expert from Hollywood handling matters. Brayn M Jennings, an Oscar nominee.The sets by Thotta Dharani are commendable and totally its one of the out and out Kamal classics where the whole story revolves around this great man, born to act!!! The way he handles all his characters perfectly well amazes the audience and it is of course a magnificent spectacle to visualize this superb movie on the first day of its release. A standing ovation to Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan
for these classy performances. Ulagamengilum Unnai Minjida Yaaru!! Unnai Petradhil Perumai Koludhu Naadu... Ulaga Nayagane!!!

* The make up man Michael Westmore amazes by doing the make up for Kamal in this movie and he has done it in such a way that none of the 10 kamals resemble each other.
* The technical brilliance in this movie simply mesmerizes the audience, be it the visual effects or the sets or the stunt scenes.
* The dialogues by Crazy Mohan and Kamal Hassan make up for the comedy element in the movie.

* Before the release, Aascar Ravichandran had told in an interview that in this movie, all 10 roles are so well explained that even a layman can understand the movie. I beg to differ. I am sorry to say that it is not going to be a big box office hit at the B and C centers.

Overall, a wholesome entertainer that touches the height of Hollywood and a great treat by our own Ulaga Nayagan.

Dasavatharam -> Certainly Better than the Best!!!

And for the answer to the question that I had asked in the first line, I dare say it didn't, to some extent. This movie could have definitely been better. And though many movie pundits may say that this is one of the best movie in Kollywood, I still don't quite think so. Maybe, Dasavatharam is the best so far.

Umpire review system

The proposed umpire review system will be trialled during India's three-Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning next month, the Indian board has said. Originally set to feature for the first time during South Africa's upcoming series against England, it was shelved after both boards failed to reach an agreement on the details.

The ICC Board, had, in March, approved the trial of the review system during a Test series in the current cricket calendar. It will now have to approve its Cricket Committee's recommendations before the Sri Lanka- India series begins. The main elements are:

Umpires should still be permitted to refer line decisions or boundaries to the third umpire as normal without a player requesting him to refer that decision"
The players should be permitted to ask the on-field umpire to review any aspect of any other decision in consultation with the third umpire
The process should take the form and order of: on-field umpire gives his decision; affected batsman or fielding side's captain asks the umpire to review that decision; the on-field umpire(s) and third umpire consult; the on-field umpire gives his final decision
The committee recommended that Hawk-Eye technology could be used by the third umpire but only for the purposes of determining the actual path of the ball up until the point that it struck the batsman and not the predictor function of the technology

The BCCI press release said the following technology could be used by the third umpire while considering the review request:

Slow motion replays from all available cameras
Super slow motion replays from the cameras positioned at either end of the ground
Ultra motion camera replays from the cameras positioned at either end of the ground
Sound from the stump microphones with the replays at normal speed and slow motion
Hawk-Eye for ball tracking purposes only (not for predicting the potential future trajectory of the ball)

According to the system, players will request reviews by making a 'T' sign; if the third umpire disagrees with the on-field umpire, the on-field umpire should revoke his previous decision before giving the new verdict. The review system will make its first appearance in the first Test in Colombo, which begins on July 23.

One of my favorites in the ongoing Euro 2008 are the Netherlands. I have been supporting them for a long time just because of the simple fact that my favorite Manchester United star Ruud Van Nistelrooy is in the team. Apart from that the Oranjes' boast of some amazing talents like Arjen Robben, Edwin Van Der Sar and Robin Van Persie. They were in the group of death with France, Romania and Italy in their group and they were expected to do well to enter into the next phase. The Oranjes haven't let us down because, they first beat the World champions Italy in the first game 3-0 and then yesterday they banged the hell outta the Les Bleus 4-1 to advance to the next phase of the Euro 2008 chapionships in style. I hope they continue in the same vein and go on to be crowned as the new Euro champions. C'mon Oranjes!!! Rock on!!!

Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, has said franchises will be allowed to trade players before the 2009 season gets underway. He added that the season could welcome more innovations, including that of the orange neon ball.

"There will be a transfer window open early next year just ahead of the 2009 season to enable franchises trade players and bring in the ones they require," Modi told PTI.

Following a highly successful opening season which concluded last week, Sharad Pawar, the Indian board president, had ruled out Modi's proposal to conduct two IPL seasons in a single year, owing to the busy international calendar. Modi agreed that the Future Tours Programme (FTP) made it difficult to implement the plan and that it could be possible only after the 2011 World Cup. The first season lasted 45 days, though several international stars only made brief appearances for their franchises, owing to national commitments.

"The second season as of now is a very distant possibility and will not take place definitely until after the 2011 World Cup, given the FTP commitments of the Test playing nations," Modi said. "By then, I firmly believe, the IPL would have already established itself as a major event and carved a niche for itself on the international cricketing calendar."

Looking ahead to the second season, Modi said the existing innovations will continue and that the use of the orange balls - to help players sight the ball better under lights - will be approved only after trials.

"One of the innovations to be introduced next year would be orange neon ball," he said. "This would, however, depend on how successful the trials of the same are.

"This year we already introduced the Orange and Purple Cap innovations (for the top run-getter and wicket-taker respectively) and the Kingfisher Team Fair Play award and will look at continuing with this tradition of innovation in the subsequent leagues."

Modi said he was overwhelmed with the success of the league so far. "The TRPs that we have garnered in India are quite frankly staggering to say the least. And all this is because we have had some of the best cricketers from around the world. Frankly I could not have envisaged a more successful inaugural season than this year."

Plans are afoot to make Test matches more attractive and ensure the Twenty20 format does not destroy the traditional five-day game, according to IS Bindra, who takes charge as the ICC's principal advisor next month.

Bindra said the sport's governing body was concerned at dwindling Test attendance. "We need to learn from our experiences and move forward," Bindra told the Week, an Indian magazine. "We in the ICC have had very serious discussions for the last six to eight months on how to repackage Test cricket, make it more exciting and introduce an element of competition.

"It does not mean tinkering with the form but we are looking to bringing in more audience in Test matches." Bindra, a former president of the BCCI, declined to reveal the measures being considered but said the "the ICC was looking at ways to increase scoring-rates [and] have a world championship of Test cricket."

These plans will be unveiled as early as next month when the ICC holds their annual meeting at its headquarters in Dubai. Bindra sidestepped suggestions that Twenty20 will spell more trouble for the 50-over format than Test cricket. "The future of 50-overs cricket is something that one has to look at in the long term."

"For now, the ICC has laid a stipulation that all Test nations must play a minimum of 30 one-day internationals and 12 Tests each year as part of the existing Future Tours Programme (FTP) that runs till 2012."

Rahul Dravid, the former Indian captain, felt one-day cricket will be the sore loser especially in the aftermath of Twenty20 cricket's tremendous success worldwide. He said the busy international schedule could force the number of one-dayers to be reduced.

"There is a limited amount of time. Twenty20 cricket is popular now so something has to give", Dravid said at a discussion forum organised to unveil the Castrol Asian Cricket awards, to be announced during the Asia Cup in Pakistan which starts this month. Dravid, Wasim Akram and Sanath Jayasuriya are part of the panel that will oversee the process that will pick the winners in various categories.

Dravid, who captained the Bangalore Royal Challengers during the Indian Premier League (IPL), said he understood the decision to hold the Twenty20 World Cup every two years and the IPL once a year. As the 2 months long Indian Premier League draws to a close, it is now time to decide who is going to be crowned the champions of the Inaugural IPL trophy. The 4 semifinalists are ready to battle it out and the 4 top teams in this IPL are the Rajasthan Royals led by the legendary leg spinner Shane Warne, the Chennai Super Kings led by the Indian team captain MS Dhoni, the Delhi Daredevils led by Virender Sehwag and finally the Preity Kings er sorry.. Punjab Kings XI led by Yuvraj Singh. The first semifinals is between the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils which is going to be held on 30th may at Wankhede stadium Mumbai. A high-scoring thriller which produced 412 runs finally went the way of Rajasthan Royals, as they edged Chennai Super Kings to record their tenth win of the IPL and further consolidate their position at the top of the table. After Graeme Smith had powered Rajasthan to 211, Chennai put up a spirited run-chase, thanks largely to Albie Morkel's 40-ball 71. It seems that there is no meaning for the term 'Official' in the case of movie Dasavatharam and its producer V Ravichandran (Oscar). Yes, once again Ravichandran has announced the official releasing date of this Kamal Hassan starrer magnum opus. According to his latest statement the film would hit the screens worldwide on June 6, without fail.

The case against the film filed by Sri Vaishnava Dharma Samraakshana Society seeking restrain the release of movie on the ground that some scenes in the film offended the feelings of Hindus has been challenged by its producer V Ravichandran.

In the counter affidavit filed by V Ravichandran in the Madras High Court, he said that the allegations mentioned in the petition were based on pure imagination as no such scenes that would hurt Hindus sentiments were there in the film. The further hearing of the case has been postponed to May 27.

However, the court has not put any restriction on the release of the film. Ravi says that he would plan to release the movie worldwide on 1000 screens in three languages Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on June 6.

Let us hope this will be the final 'official date' for the release of Dasavatharam!

Zaheer Khan has been felicitated on being a named one of the Five Cricketers of the Year by Wisden Cricketer's Almanack. In a short ceremony in Bangalore, Rahul Dravid presented Zaheer with a leather-bound copy of the Wisden 2008. Zaheer was recognised by Wisden as "the Indian left-armer who ended England's six-year sequence of being unbeaten in home Test series". Zaheer ended the three-Test series with 18 wickets at 20.33 and his 9 for 134 was instrumental in their victory in Nottingham, a win that set up the 1-0 triumph. Zaheer said the award was a true reflection of his efforts in the last year. He said that while he was not a great reader of cricket books he had been inspired after reading The Art of Fast Bowling by his childhood idol Dennis Lillee. "Apart from Lillee, I have followed Glen McGrath, Allan Donald and Wasim Akram." The Mumbai Indians were on a roll when they notched up their 6th consecutive victory by beating the Deccan Chargers yesterday in Mumbai. This is a new record in IPL beating the previous record of 5 consecutive wins by Kings XI Punjab. Yesterday, the start performer for Mumbai, Shaun Pollock was unfit and couldn't make it to the final XI. He was replaced by Dilhara Fernando. Dwayne Bravo was playing his last match of the IPL before leaving for the tour against Australia. Gilly won the toss and elected to field. Mumbai started off in a blazing manner with Jayasuriya continuing his blistering form flaying the bowlers with certain amount of disdain. He showed scant respect to any bowler and Sachin on the other end just kept rotating the strike. In the end, it was Venugopala Rao who brought an end to the Jayasuriya cameo. Then, Sachin hit 3 superb boundaries before holing out to midwicket off Afridi. Then, Uthappa and Thornley fell i quick succession. But Nayar and Bravo steadied the ship and took the Mumbai Indians to a respectable score of 178 in the stipulated 20 overs. The Deccan Chargers' reply was too bad as the new ball bowlers Bravo and Fernando took the wickets of Gilly, Afridi and in form Sharma in quick succession leaving them tottering at 20-3. Then, Venugopala Rao and Ravi Teja got the team closer to victory but in the end it was so near yet so far. Venugopala rao had made it a habit to convert humiliating defeats to decent defeats. Bravo for his all round performance of 30 with the bat and 3-24 with the ball got the man of the match in his last match in this version of IPL. C'mon Mumbai!!!

The Knight Riders, after a demolishing performance in their previous outing against the Dare Devils, were left tattered today by the Mumbai Indians. Anil Kumble has firmly backed Rahul Dravid, the captain of the Bangalore Royal Challengers, and said it was time "people who matter" understand what sports is all about. In this post, I would wish to pen down my favorite teams in IPL and the reasons why I like them. The reasons may vary from me being a fan of an individual in a team or because of the fact that I like the team as a whole. My favorites this IPL in the order of the highest priority:

1) Mumbai Indians : The Mumbai Indians who started pretty badly losing their first 4 matches are undoubtedly my favorites in this IPL because of the simple reason that the God belongs to Mumbai. They have come back pretty strongly in this IPl, winning the next 4 matches pretty convincingly and the latest one being the 9 wicket thrashing win over the Chennai Super Kings. the God is back bringing strength to the team and also the explosive opener J'surya is back to his bludgeoning best. The team is in good stead now with Pollock, Nayar and Uthappa backing up the other players. I hope Mumbai Indians get into the semis and eventually life the Cup.

2) Chennai Super Kings : The next favorite is obviously Chennai Super Kings because of the simple reason that Im from Chennai and I have got every rights to support them. They have been doing well but off late, have been losing some matches because of the absence of Hayden and Hussey. But, Dhoni is captaining the side well and many youngsters are doing it better in the team. the team lacks in the bowling department.

3) Kings XI Punjab : My next favorite would be the Kings XI Punjab. I luv this team because of 1 reason. Preity Zinta!! Man she looks so so cute and the expressions that she gives during the fall of a wicket or a six is superb!! Her dimple is too attractive too. The team is strong with the likes of Marsh, Hopes and the bowling dept is strong too. A main contender for the IPL cup. These are my top favorites. I would be happy if any of these teams win, but it would better be Mumbai so that the God can rightfully lift the Cup.

Bhajji banned again

Harbhajan Singh has been banned by the Indian board for five ODIs for slapping Sreesanth during an IPL match last month. The ban means Harbhajan will miss India's forthcoming tri-series in Bangladesh and the start of the Asia Cup in Pakistan, in addition to 11 matches in the IPL as earlier decided by the league.
While the decision is being seen in some quarters as a light punishment, the rider - which came at the end of the official announcement - was far more ominous: A life ban for a repeat offence. A senior BCCI official told Cricinfo that Harbhajan faces a life ban if reported and found guilty of indiscipline by match officials at any level of cricket, as specified by the Indian board's rules. The scope of that offence ranges from verbally abusing a rival player to physical assault.
"This obviously doesn't involve minor offences, such as showing dissent against an umpire's decision, which usually attract fines of 10-20% of the player's match fee," the official said. "But if he is found guilty of even verbal abuse, in any level of cricket, his career could end. The key is that the life ban threat has been officially recorded and that leaves little room for doubt later. Harbhajan is on dangerous ground and has to very careful."

Mumbai Indians thrash Super Kings

After a long hibernation, finally the God was back captaining the spirited Mumbai Indians against the Super Kings. Mumbai Indians having won the toss elected to field first and it was proved to be the right decision as the Chennai Super Kings were reduced to 46-4 and the new ball bowlers, Nehra and Pollock were really unbeatable. Particularly, Polly proved to be a miser conceding just 9 runs in his 4 overs. The struggling Kings then had a partnership which salvages some pride for them and hence getting their team to a respectable total. The partnership between Badri and Dhoni proved to be a vital one as Badri scored his half century. They moved to a respectable total of 157 in 20 overs. The Mumbai Indians' openers came into the ground for the run chase with a rousing applause from the crowd as the Master walked in with the Marauder from Matara. But, it was the Srilankan's day because he kept smashing literally every ball to the boundary and beyond. They got off to a stunning start scoring 82 in just 8 overs when Joginder Sharma got the better of the master. But then, Uthappa joined J'surya and with the latter in menacing mood, Uthappa just had to give the strike to him and watch the ball sail out of the ground. J'surya finished the match in a hurry by scoring 6,6,6,4,4 to win the match comprehensively for Indians in just 13.5 overs. He got a century in just 45 balls and remeined unbeaten on 114. He was the man of the match.

The latest shocker doing the rounds is the bomb blasts that have taken place in the Pink city of Jaipur. Sources state that atleast 5 bomb blasts have occurred in Jaipur causing absolute mayhem and killing many people and also injuring quite a few people. The bomb blasts in Jaipur has cast a shadow of uncertainty over Saturday's IPL match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the city. Bangalore have offered to host the game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. "We have conveyed our decision to the IPL council," Martin Crowe, the Bangalore coach, told Cricinfo from Chandigarh, where the rest of the team is currently staying. "The franchises are discussing the issue. A final decision will be made tomorrow. We are going to Delhi tomorrow and will probably head over to Bangalore after a night's stay in Delhi."However, Fraser Castellino, the CEO of the Jaipur franchise, said he had not heard of this development and didn't want to comment on the possibility. Bangalore have already hosted Rajasthan in the tournament - on April 26 - in a game that the visitors won by a comfortable margin.At least five major blasts rocked Jaipur, the base of the Rajasthan Royals, with the death and injury toll on the rise. The IPL is almost over the half way mark and still, if at all there was one reason why I din't enjoy watching IPL was the absence of GOD. The Mumbai Indians have been struggling initially but later on, they have developed into a challenging side by defeating some good teams like Delhi Dare Devils, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. But, tomorrow's match is going to be something special for them as they meet Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai. The God, Sachin Tendulkar is going to make his IPL debut tomorrow and finally my long wait is over. I am really waiting to watch God bat tomorrow just like a million fans all over the world. And I am really not worried about how many runs he scores because, he is GOD forever!! Even if he scores or not!!

Cheer Leaders to bring in some Cheer!!!

The ongoing IPL has increased the already existing high temperature to a new high. This T-20 format has been receiving great response from the audience from all parts of India and also has been one of the best things to have happened to Indian cricket. The way the players from different countries are moving together as a single unit is something to cheer about and something that is good for cricket. But, the biggest controversy that has been dampening the spirits of the IPL in some parts of India has been the Cheer Leaders. These cheer leaders, most of them brought in from the US, have been the cause of the controversy in places like Maharashtra and Delhi. The Washington Redskins, one of the famous cheerleaders team has been brought in by Vijay Mallya for cheering the Royal Challengers. I suppose, they are the only ones who have brought some cheers on the Bangalore fans because the team is of no good.
What I feel is that there is nothing wrong on the part of the teams to have their cheer leaders cheering for them. This is in fact a form of entertainment provided to the crowd as well as the players apart from the cricket treat that has been provided to us. These cheer leaders add some western color and flavor to the atmosphere and their presence makes the place electric.
But, many so called great politicians are just making it an issue saying that these cheer leaders should be banned on grounds that they are destroying the Indian culture. This has always been the job of politicians particularly from the BJP and VHP who keep frowning about everything that is going on well in the country. Well. There are many ways in which culture can be destroyed and this definitely isn't one of them. Do you think that cheer leaders would in any way look entertaining and attractive in a costume such as this??

Super Kings win the Battle of the Kings!!!

For the 2nd time in this IPL tournament, the Chennai Super Kings proved their mettle, this time at home, by beating the Kings XI Punjab and hence winning the Battle of the Kings hands down 2-0. With this win, the Chennai Super Kings also came back to their winning ways and are looking good to win the IPL cup. The CSK innings started off pretty badly with their openers falling in the first 3 overs. Then, Badri and Raina put up a cute little cameo of a partnership before Raina perished trying to up the run rate. Then, Badri and Dhoni builded a huge partnership with Dhoni hitting the ball out of the ground many times. They both got the CSK score to 181 in 20 overs. Both Badri and Dhoni scored good 60's. Then, the Kings XI got off to a similar start losing 2 quick wicket. But, Sarwan and Marsh quietly got the run chase going!!! When everything seemed to be going out of hands for the CSK with Marsh plundering the bowlers to all parts of the ground, in walked the old horse Balaji. He got the wickets of Sarwan and Marsh in quick succession and then it was wickets tumbling all over the place. Amarnath and Murali then got sum wickets and in the end, Balaji put the icing on the cake with a hat trick in the last over. Tonite, its going to be another much awaited match in IPL as the 2 kings of IPL, the Chennai Super Kings and the Kings XI Punjab are going to battle it out in MAC, Chennai. The previous encounter between this two teams was held at Mohali and that match was won comfortably by the Chennai Super Kings thanks to a scintillating century by Hussey. But, this time around, the Kings XI Punjab hold the upperhand as they are in a winning streak right now having won 5 matches in a row. Where as, the Super Kings after suffering 3 losses have hit back to form at the right moment after having defeated the Delhi Daredevils 2 days back. So, time only will tell as to who will win the battle of the Kings tonite. As of now, the SuperKings are 1-0 on head-head. Basically I luv Preity and would love to see her happy tonite. At the same time, I want the Super Kings to win the match. So, I am really hoping for a tie today!!!

Royals switch off Deccan Charge!!!

The Rajasthan Royals, after suffering a surprise defeat at the hands of the Mumbai Indians came back to form with a thumping win over the Deccan Chargers. The Deccan Chargers batting first, got off to a formidable start thanks to Gilly and Gibbs. But once a wicket fell, the Deccan Chargers went out of charge and suddenly were looking down the barrel at around 100-5. Then, Venugopala Rao hit some good shots to surge the Chargers to a total of 140. They needed quick wickets to stand a chance of winning the match. But, this was not to be. The Royals openers Yousuf Pathan and Graeme Smith got the run chase to a great start and a century stand was all that the Royals needed to beat the Chargers by 8 wickets. Pathan scored a quickfire 68 off 37 balls to win the man of the match. So, the Royals are back on top of the points table. Can anyone stop them!!!??!!

Chennai Super Kings seek sweet revenge

After the departure of the H2O - Hayden, Hussey and Oram, the Chennai Super Kings looked to have become weaker because they suffered two big losses against the Delhi Daredevils and the Deccan Chargers and an even more humiliating defeat against the Rajasthan Royals. So, the hopes of a Chennai super kings' revival looked bleak until tonight. They struck back at the right moment by seeking sweet revenge against the Delhi Dare Devils by beating them in a humdinger at their own den. Delhi scored a competitive 187 courtesy a brilliant 80 by orange cap owner Gautam Gambhir. No one expected Chennai to chase such a total with the present form they were in. But, the openers gave a rousing start to the innings as both Vidyut and Fleming flayed the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Suddenly, few quick wickets fell and the required run rate climbed up. But then, the skipper MS Dhoni and Albie Morkel steadied the ship. The run rate kept increasing until a Sehwag over turned the match on the side of the Chennai Super Kings. An over which cost 23 runs including 3 towering 6's and a boundary did the trick and it was Morkel who wielded the willow. Then, it was like easy win for the Chennai Superkings. But then, some quick wickets caused a few hiccups among the Chennai ranks until Gony and Badri sealed it for the Superkings in the final ball. A nerve-wrackling match indeed!!!

The Mumbai Indians were one of the costliest teams in this IPL. With a bunch of amazing players, this team started its IPL stint on a sad note by losing their first three matches. But, then, suddenly, they caused a huge upset by defeating the then leaders, Kolkata Knight riders. Then, again they lost a couple of matches. And again, they caused a huge upset by defeating the then point table leaders, Delhi Dare Devils. I think, the Mumbai Indians are leader slayers because they always are keep9ing it a habit to beat the team which is atop the table. Now, today, they defeated the Table leaders Rajasthan Royals to cause a furore in the IPL. In spite of the absence of Sachin, the team has been doing well under Polly's able captaincy. I hope Sachin is back soon and adds some steel to the batting line up and I really hope that they break the shackles and get into the semi-finals by causing some more upsets. Mumbai rocking!!!

Kamal amidst controversies again

Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan is always known to feature in many controversial movies off late. First it was Virumaandi. Virumandi was originally titled Sandiyar. But, because of the threats and opposition by the Sandiyar community, the movie name was changed to Virumandi. Next, came the Mumbai Express. It was at that time that a rule was announced that Tamil movies should have tamil titles. But, once again Kamal stood his case and successfully as always. Now, after creating such a big hype with his upcoming movie Dasavatharam, he is once again amidst controversies. Some of the scenes shown in the trailor has caused the Vaishnavites to get angry. The movie shows the fight that existed between Saivites and Vaishnavites. But, the case is that, they have wrongly portrayed the whole thing. So, the committee of the Vaishnavites have filed a case against the release of the movie. I really hope that the movie releases soon and I also hope it lives upto the hype that it created. Ulagamengilum unnai minjida yaaru!! Unnai petradhil perumai kolludhu paaru!! Ulaga nayagane!!!

Before starting off with the review, I wish to pay my condolences to the sudden demise of the brains of Director Dharani and Music Director Vidyasagar.

To start off with the movie, Kuruvi, its an action-packed entertainer with the usual sentiments, kuthu songs, heroisms and punch dialogues that you expect in a Vijay movie. The movie starts off in a different way with the sets in Cuddapah hugely reminding the viewers of the movie Blood Diamond. Only later will you find that it is actually inspired from that movie itself.

The movie basically is about a person who single-handedly saves his father and a whole lot of people who have been held as hostages by a group and are being tortured by them in a deserted area. Who else but Vijay can be able to handle such a heavy role with ease. The first half is extremely fast paced with super fast screenplay in which Dharani stamps his authority.
More than Vijay, its Vivek who keeps the audience on their seats with his rib-tickling comedy. The combo of Vijay and Vivek make the first half, the best half in the movie. Coming to the 2nd half, I don't know what went wrong here. The movie suddenly becomes very slow and ultimately boring. The songs add to the already existing headache. The punch dialogues which were absent in the first half makes its way into the 2nd half and its almost like a Perarasu movie in the 2nd half. Another reason for the poor 2nd half is the absence of Vivek. The Music is terrible with just a one song Thaen Thaen bringing some smile to the listeners. The other songs are all of the same genre and absolutely makes the audience frown like anything.
Trisha doesn't get a meaty role in this movie and all she does is to run behind the hero and dance for the songs. But, Trisha, who has put on some weight is looking absolutely glamorous in this movie. I can't think of any other movie in which she looked so sexy.The other characters in the movie do their job well.

Overall, one has to admit that this movie is ideally tailor-made for Vijay and is a treat for Vijay fans. But for ardent movie buffs, I am sorry to say that this movie is not the one for you.

* Vivek's comedy forms the best part of the movie.
* Vijay looks good in the movie and his acting is a big plus in the movie.

* Music is not upto the mark. Vidyasagar can do well to improve and give better music in forthcoming movies.
* Is this movie directed by Dharani???
* The 2nd half drags and the jarring punch dialogues do no good either.
* Some action sequences are a bit too much to digest.

So, its time Dharani comes back to his usual self and gives some good entertainers like Ghilli and Dhool.

Bottomline: Kuruvi fails to fly. Just a flap of a feather.

IPL - Day 3 Preview

As the day progresses, the IPL is getting better and better and today is going to be a super sunday with 2 interesting matches coming up later in the day. The first match promises to be a very close encounter with 2 of the favorite teams clashing with each other. The Kolkata Knight Riders who have already proved their class with a thumping win against Bangalore Royal Challengers are going to face a stronger opponent in the Deccan Chargers and it is going to be held in the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Trump cards:

There are some key players to watch out for in each of these 2 teams in this match. For the Kolkata Knight Riders, its going to be the Kiwi Brendon McCullum who has already shown his power in the first match with an unbeaten 158. Apart from him, the Aussies Hussey and Ponting are also good hitters of the cricket ball. The bowling is strengthened by the presence of Ishant Sharma.

For the Deccan Chargers, a lot would depend on the 2 deadly Australian powerhouses in Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds. there is also Scott Styris to add some fire power to the Chargers. The bowling is spearheaded by RP Singh and Chaminda Vaas. So, it surely promises to be an exciting match.

The trump cards for the Mumbai Indians are surely going to be the Marauder from Matara, Sanath Jayasuriya and a lot would depend on Sachin Tendulkar because he is yet to recover from the groin strain. Doubts are still hovering whether he would be able to lead the team today. The bowling is strengthened by the presence of Shaun Pollock and Dilhara Fernando with Harbhajan Singh giving them the spin option. The BRC however must hope that their batting clicks today. Delhi Dare Devils dent Rajasthan challenge...

Then 2nd match in the 2nd day of the IPL saw the Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals locking horns at the Feroze Shah Kotla, Delhi. This one-sided encounter saw the Delhi Dare Devils defeating the Rajasthan Royals pretty convincingly by 9 wickets. The Rajasthan Royals, batting first, could only muster 129-8 in 20 overs. The Delhi Daredevils made easy work of the target getting the target in just 15.1 overs for the loss of just 1 wicket.

Heroes of the day:

The heroes of the day belonged to just 1 team and it was from the Delhi Daredevils. First, it was with the ball. Ferveez Maharoof showed great character and accuracy in his bowling and he simply pinned down the Rajasthan batsmen and he ended up with figures of 2-11 in his 4 overs. Mcgrath supported him ably.

Coming to the batting, it was the young deadly duo of Gautam Gambhir and Shikar Dhawan that did the trick for the Daredevils. Both of them carved in nice unbeaten half centuries and guided their side to a comprehensive victory.

The positives of the game was the allround performance of the Delhi Daredevils. They dominated in all 3 departments of the game and quite rightly won the game.

The negatives of the game was the poor batting and running between the wickets by the Rajasthan Royals. they simply seemed out of their minds and they seemed quite underprepared for the big event. Hope they come up with a better show in the upcoming matches.

Chennai wins the battle of the kings!!

Today in Mohali, one of the best 20-20 encounters was witnessed. In the end, the Chennai Super Kings got the better of the Punjab Kings XI by 33 runs. Chennai Superkings scored 240-5 in 20 overs. In reply, Punjab Kings XI fought back well to score 207-4 in 20 overs.

Heroes of the day:

Mike Hussey was undoubtedly the hero of the day for scoring the fastest ever 20-20 hundred in just 50 deliveries. He carted 8 4's and 9 6's in his breathtaking knock of 114 off 54 balls and he was the pillar of the Chennai innings. He was ably supported by Hayden, Badrinath and Raina.

The other hero of the day was James Hopes who provided the best start that Punjab Kings could have asked for. He looked in great touch and looked to single handedly run away with the match at one stage but got out in the pursuit of upping the run rate. He scored 71 off 33 balls with 10 4's and 3 6's. Sangakkara also did a good job to keep Punjab in the hunt with a half century in 32 balls.

The positives for the game were undoubtedly the batsmen of both teams as they were in cruise control hammering almost everything in sight. The bowlers were shown no mercy at all.

The negative of the game were undoubtedly the fielders of both teams. Both teams fielded really badly and the number of dropped catches from both teams made the day a forgettable one for the fielders.

The Indian Premier league is stepping into the 2nd day today and its getting all the more interesting with 4 teams clashing today. First its going to be the clash between the kings as Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings XI are going to face each other in a fierce battle in the PCA stadium, Mohali.

Head to Head:
Its really going to be a match worth watching because of the players that each team has. First up, its going to be an engrossing battle between Mathew Hayden and Brett Lee. Both belonging to the same team, surely know each other. So, it will be interesting as to how Hayden will tackle Lee's pace as Hayden is one player who likes to dominate the bowlers.

The next battle is another mouth watering one which is going to be again, between 2 players playing for the same national team. This is going to be between Sangakkara and Muralitharan. Sangakkara knows everything about Murali as he is the one who keeps wicket for this spin wizard in the Srilankan team. So, this match is truly going to bring the spectators to the edge of their seats.

Trump Cards:
The main trump cards for the Punjab kings XI are surely going to be Yuvraj Singh and Brett Lee not to forget the other important players in the team. But taking the 20-20 format into the foray, Yuvi will definitely make a huge difference in this format of the game.

The Indian Premier League started off with a bang with some amazing visual treat which was short and simply superb!!! Not to forget the Cheer girls who were too hot too!!!The Royal Challengers proved to be amazing hosts for the big event!! So, the inaugural match between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Kolkata Knight Riders started off with the Bangalore captain Rahul Dravid winning the toss and electing to field first.

The Knight riders innings got underway in a silent manner as Praveen kumar bowled a good over to start with costing just 3 runs. But, then, this was only the start of a mighty massacre. What followed in the next 19 overs was a bat swinging hard at anything and everything that came on the way and it belonged to the big hitting kiwi Brendon Mccullum!! He proved to be the man for T-20 when he hit all bowlers around the park and outside it. The other batsmen did their job as Ganguly, Ponting, Hussey and Hafeez, all playing their part scoring at a run a ball. The bowlers were shown scant respect as all bowlers were slain by the marauder. McCullum finally ended up unbeaten on 158 of just 73 balls. He fired in 9 4's and as many as 14 6's to round off the massive assault!!! At the end of the innings, the Bangalore Royal challengers were left clueless of what they had witnessed in the last 1 hour. So, the Kolkata Knight riders ended up amassing 222-3 in the 20 overs. King Khan was a happy man!!!

The Bangalore Royal Challengers in reply, were no match for the accurate bowling by the Knight riders' new ball bowlers. Ishant Sharma and A Dinda bowled with great heart and rightly so, the Royal challengers were left struggling at 26-4 in a short span of time. Dravid, Kallis, Kohli and Jaffer could do nothing in this pressure run chase as all of them ended up with meagre scores. But then after a brief battle by Boucher and White, the procession resumed again with Akhil,Boucher and White ending up miserably. Then, the tail could do nothing but to follow suit as the Bangalore Royal challengers' royal challenge ended up in such a miserable fashion. The Royal Challengers were folded out for a paltry 82 with McCullum fittingly taking the final catch of the match. Agarkar was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets and was ably supported by Dinda, Ishant and Sourav. So, finally, Kolkata Knight Riders won by 140 runs which is simply huge in T-20 cricket.

Positives: The positives of the game was undoubtedly Brendon McCullum who proved to be the difference between the 2 teams. His swashbuckling innings took the game away from the hosts. Apart from him, the bowlers proved to be clinical and accurate enough for the Kolkata Knight riders.

Negatives: The big negative for the Bangalore Royal Challengers was that they didn't possess a T-20 match winner in them. One batsman who could single handedly take the game away from the opposition. One batsman who could destroy the bowlers. I don't think Jaffer is a right choice for T-20 arena. I think, in the further games, the royal challengers could do well to pick some young guns who could fire in all cylinders rather than picking a team which lacks power and specializes only in experience and timing.

Overall, a treat to watch but would have been better if the Royal challengers had given a better fightback!!! Great start to the new revelation in cricket!! Indian Premier League!!

IPL fever begins...

It was some 6 months back that the Indian Cricket League(ICL) was born. This was started because of the ex-players who have had a bitter relationship with the BCCI and wanted to badly get out of the net. This was simply because of the never ending politics that existed in BCCI. The ICL initially was a big hit among the people but gradually it lost its fans because of the monotony that existed in ICL. But, BCCI had all the answers to ICL. It proved its might when it traded in some great players from other countries to play for the Indian Premier League(IPL). The trade-off amount was something that any player would feel in awe about. The players were able to mete out some huge money and IPL proved to be the best BUSINESS for cricketers. They could be able to churn out more money than what they could have amassed if they played for their own country in international encounters. Although this concept proves to be a big negative when it comes to hampering the class and quality of the international matches, it will surely prove to be a money-spinner and would attract large crowds simply because of the fact that it is going to b held in India where Cricket is like a religion. The much awaited IPL is going to get underway today and the first match will be between the Bangalore Royal challengers and the Kolkata Knight riders. A great day for cricket is already on the cards as players like Dravid, Kallis, Steyn, Ganguly, Gayle are going to be a pat of the big match between these 2 good teams. So, lets wait and watch out for the wonderful IPL season ahead!!!

The culturals is one of the big matter of pride for any department in any college. Some of the biggest cultural events happening around the city are Saarang of IIT, Techofes of Anna Univ, Mitafest of MIT and some more at many colleges in and around TN. But this cultural fever is about the Sai Carnival 2008, the intra-collegiate culturals happening in Sairam engg college. This year, it is going to be something special for us gags as this is the last year for us. So, we undoubtedly want to make it big this time. The events are Face painting, Collage, Vegetable carving, Tamil and English poetry, Dumbc, Quiz, Adzap, Variety, Dance and Antakshari. We have so far won 3rd in Face painting and also 1st in Dumbc and Quiz. But due to the poor points and rules, we are 4 points behind ECE dept although they haven't won 1st in any event. Anyway, we are hoping to win this Culturals Cup. Anyways, we will do our best and let God do the rest.

ICC rankings..

Its been a long time since I posted something on my favorite topic. Of course, this post is about the ICC rankings. I think, after a long time the ICC rankings are finally proving to be something to check out as it mainly deals with current performances of players. I feel that this is the best way to judge a batsman or a bowler or for that matter, a team. The current form coupled with the home/away advantage/disadvantage stuff makes the rankings look a bit less sophisticated than what it was, a few months back. I have begun to follow these rankings ever since my God, Sachin retained his number one spot in rankings after his fine crucial knocks in the CB series finals against Australia in Australia. Ponting slipped to 2nd place and rightly so because of his dismal show in the CB series.
I became even more happy with the way the rankings were done because for the first time in many years, the Aussies have been pushed down to 2nd spot and the thoroughly deserving team, the Proteas who were consistent this season claimed the coveted no1 spot. But, today, I was in for a disappointment because, Sachin has been pushed to the no2 spot. But, Im atleast happy that its quite logical. Smith who has been in fine form this season claimed the top spot by scoring heavily in the recently concluded tour of Bangladesh. His man of the series award won him the top spot ahead of the God. I hope these 2 keep the Aussie captain Ponting in bay. At last, ICC rankings that are quite understandable. The rankings for test and ODI are as follows:

After many months of criticism and pressure from the media, Sachin finally retained his original stature and rightly so. After his stupendous and belligerent display of fire n ice in his batting in the CB series finals. So, welcome back God, to ur royale throne!!!

India have proved the World what they are made of!!! With a string of inexperienced yet patriotic bunch of fast bowlers, India have made it in the CB series final in Brisbane. They have hammered the Aussies once again and those of who, who thought India beating Aussies was a fluke, I have just 2 words for them!! Fuck Off!!! Once again, it was our God of cricket, Sachin who built a solid platform by scoring a brilliant yet quiet 91.
India scored a competitive 258 but the Indian bowlers made it easy once again for the Indians by snaring the Aussies wickets at regular intervals. Praveen kumar, the latest sensation took 4 crucial wickets to hit the nail in the coffin for the Aussies!!! He was the obvious choice for the Man of the match.
One of the biggest flops in this series was undoubtedly the Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting who did absolutely nothing in this series to justify his class. The Indian bowlers made him their bunny and first it was Bajji, then Ishant in the test series and finally it was Praveen in the finals who snapped his wicket.
Overall, it marks a great moment for Indian cricket as the juniors and seniors fought it out with success and I really hope they continue to dominate their cricket and replace the Aussies as the best team in the World. Chak De India!! Chak De Sachin!! Fuck De Aussies!!!

The tale of the Boys in Blue!!!

Ever since the unexpected T-2o World cup win, the Indians have been flying too high, particularly the captain, M.S.Dhoni. The players became richer and richer after this world cup win and then, talks were on that, this was going to be the end of the road for the senior players like Sourav, Rahul and Sachin. But, immediately the test series down under followed, and it was the seniors and not the youngsters, who came to India's rescue and helped them salvage some pride. Dhoni din't do much to justify his place in the test side. Yet, he played all 4 test matches.
After, the test series was over, what followed was a shocker by the dumb selectors of the Indian team. They dropped/rested senior players like Sourav, Rahul and Laxman. Dhoni even said in an interview that, if he were given the young side that played in the T-20, he would do the miracle again. But, only words remained and not the actions. In the T-20 match against Australia, the BOYS in Blue crumbled under the pressure and were bowled out for paltry score. The Aussies bludgeoned the Indians with ease. The slide started there. Now, with the first ODI of the CB series going on and the BOYS in blue struggling to cope up with the Aussie bowling, it is now time for the selectors to do a rethink. The seniors should be back in the side as experience is indeed very important in a series Down Under. You can do all those experiments at home where you can get those dead pitches where even a Jaffer and a Dhoni can score hundreds at ease but not against the Lions that too at their own den. Aussies are truly the world champions and if at all, India has got any chance to trouble the Aussies, then it must be because of the experience and definitely not youth. I feel that Dhoni is thinking too much of himself. Being a captain, he hasn't done anything significant except for that T-20 win. So, I feel that the selectors should first bring back the senior players into the team and also the captaincy must be handed over to someone like Sehwag or Sourav because Dhoni doesn't seem to gel all that well with the senior players. If the present form continues, I am sorry to say that, the tale of the BOYS in Blue will always be a tale of woe!!!

Its been almost a fortnight since the CNN-IBN awarded the Indian of the year awards. I had already blogged a few weeks back about the nominees for the awards and now, for those of you who don't know about who won the awards in each category, I would like to furnish you with all the details of the CNN-IBN award winners in each category.

CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2007 - Politics

This is one of the most important awards because it has now become a situation where there are very less clean politicians in India. So, awarding this was quite easy for the jury and the Indian of the year award for Politics was won by P Chidambaram for engineering a spectacular growth rate and being an astute economic manager despite coalition pressures.

CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2007 - Business

The next important category in which the Indian of the year award was recognized and awarded is Business. With the sensex going haywire and business going through a stretch of ups and downs it takes a great hard work to become a good businessman. One of the famous personalities who has succeeded in achieving this feat turly deserves this award and he is none other than O P Bhatt For showing how a public sector behemoth could flex enough muscle in the ferociously competitive banking sector.

CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2007 - Entertainment

Entertainment is one of the main source of comfort for people in this hectic world. So, providing wholesome entertainment is one of the toughest jobs and only the filmdom is succeeding highly in providing it to the people. Bollywood is a biggest source of entertainment and when there was a tend of movies which was largely centered on Skin show and romance, here released a movie which apart from providing good entertainment also kindled the true spirits of every Indians and they did it with the help of Hockey. Yes. I am talking about the amazing movie Chak De which was one of the great entertainers for everyone. The people responsible for this were Shimit Amin and Jaideep Sahni for delivering the year’s Best Idea film, Chak De, and demonstrating how a simple idea can be made a runaway commercial success.

CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2007 - Sports

Sports is undoubtedly one of the biggest crazes in India. In a country where Cricket has always dominated every other sport much to the glee of cricket fanatics like me and much to the dismay of lovers of other sports, the CNN-IBN Indian of the year for Sports was awarded to Vishwanathan Anand who has proven to be the king of chess. He is felicitated with this award for being one of the rare Indians to become the undisputed world champion in a sport and making chess a popular sport in India.

CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2007 - Public Service

The award for the Indian of the year in the field of Public service was awarded to the illustrious E Sreedharan, Chairman DMRC, for setting a rare work ethic and transforming the face of transportation by effective time-bound execution of the Metro Rail project.

CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2007 - Global Indian

The CNN-IBN Indian of the year 2007 award for the field of Globalization is awarded to Arun Sarin for piloting more than 11 Billion U.S dollars foreign direct investment in India, one of the largest ever.

Hearty congratulations to all these people who made us proud by being the Best Indians in their respective fields. These are the trend setters for young guns like us and hope that we follow these great personalities and hope to make some bigger achievements in the near future.

The Boys in Blue --> U-19 Champs!!!

This summer has been a great one for cricket lovers and the ongoing CB series is coming to a fitting end with India leading the finale 1-0 thanks to Sachin and the rest of d guyz. But, not many of us are aware of the ongoing U-19 World cup being held in Malaysia. India were the runner up last edition having beaten by Pakistan. But this time, it has been a very shrewd young Indian team who have come with a single motto!! ie To Win the World Cup. Finally, they have also succeeded in doing so, when they defeated the Proteas by 12runs in the rain affected finals which was held today at Kinrara oval in Malaysia.
They beat the spirited Proteans in the close encounter today and thanks to the rain God, the Boyz in Blue made it a dream double to go with the win by the MIB earlier this evening. The Indians were undoubtedly the best team in the tournament having been undefeated in all the games. Tanmay Shrivastava lead the Indian batting in this tournament and the bowling department was lead by Sangwan who seems a good prospect for the Indian team.
Virat Kohli had been an aggressive captain right throughout the series and also seems to be a good player for the Indian team in the future.
The Proteas on the other hand are taking home a lot of positives. And, being a fan of Proteas as well, I can see a great replacement for Jonty Rhodes in Sybrand Engelbrecht. Man!! He rocks!!!

But, with a fitting end to the cricket India, ending the Super Sunday in style!! Chak De India!!!

Sachin Sunday @ SCG

A day ago, I wanted a superb sunday and I have got more than what I expected!! Apart from being a Superb Sunday, it turned out to be a Sachin Sunday today as the men in blue ripped the Aussies into pieces in the first finals of the CB series in SCG.
Aussies, batting first were restricted to 238 after a spell of accurate fast bowling by Ishant and Praveen and later on were hampered by some pin point spin bowling by young Piyush and Bhajji!! Hayden was the only one who could withstand the attack.

Then, it waz a complete Sachin show along with Rohit Sharma as the Men in Blue whipped the Aussies pretty convincingly with 25 balls to spare. For all those who said, Sachin flops in Finals, I hope they got the answer now!!! I expected a sharjah finale out there in SCG and I am happy that I got sumthing close to dat!! After all those talkings by Hayden, Hussey and all those ungentlemanesque Aussies, I think that Sachin did justice by allowing his bat to speak rather than words!!! Of course, this is what Cricket is all about!!! So, hoping for another crunching finale in Brisbane!!! The Boys in blue are rocking elsewhere in the U-19 World cup finals against the Proteas as well. After being bundled out for 159, they had the Proteas tottering at 17-3 when rain saved their skins. Hope they win the World cup making it a memorable double!!! Chak de Sachin!! Chak De India!!!

P.S. Where is Mr.Peter Roebuck now??!!! I feel that he should retire from being a critic rather than asking Sachin to retire from ODI's.

Quizzical Saturday!!!

Yesterday was by far the best day of the week for moi. Spent the whole of the morning chatting wid friends and was eagerly waiting for the evening when I can spend some time with my friends playing cricket. And ya, we started playing at around 4.15pm and we won the series 2-1 thanks to some sensible batting by our batsmen backed up by some fiery bowling by our bowlers. The game was over by around 6pm.
Our ever consistent batsman AV was gonna conduct quiz at around 6.30pm in Kicha's house. First, he decided against conducting the quiz because of the strength which was as low as 7. But, because of Vichu's persuasions, he decided to conduct the quiz as planned. This time the teams were shuffled. Team A consisted of Kicha & Oi(Deadly combo), Team B consisted of the deadly Sundar along with my quiz partner Mahesh and new quizzer Aravindh and Team C consisted of Me, Paambu and the multi-talented Vichu. Of course, Vichu waz our trump card.
The quiz was good overall and by the end, because of some haste decisions taken by Me and Paambu, we were left behind the pack with 45 points while Sundar team stood second at 65pts and Kicha's team lead with 75pts. It was then that the turning point of the quiz occurred. AV decided to conduct a written quiz with 4 questions. The correct answer carried 20 and the wrong one deprieved 10pts whereas, if u pass, no points will be deducted. We decided that this was gonna be it. The 4 questions were asked and luckily we had 3 of them correct and 1 wrong which got us 50 valuable points taking us to 95pts. Kicha's team got 3 right amassing them 60pts making them worthy winners. Sundar's team got 1 right and 1 wrong and so making just 10pts adding to their tally of 65 pts. So, we snatched the 2nd place in the written round. And kudos to AV!! The quiz was good!!! So, that made the saturday a worthwhile one!!!

Superb Sunday!!!

After a long array of infinite sundays that have gone by, I feel that tomorrow is going to be one memorable sunday!! I think that Im gonna enjoy/use this sunday to the fullest extent. There are many things to keep me busy this sunday and I hope, all of them happen in my favor. First of all, its going to be the First Final between India and Australia in the CB series gonna be held in MCG(if im not wrong). I expect the God to fire tomorrow as he has been disappointing us for the last few weeks because of his pathetic batting in the CB series. Some damn idiotic bunch of stupids who call themselves critics have started speculating the end for the God. So, I pray that God stays immortal in cricket!! I seriously pray for a repeat of the Sharjah finals which stole many people's hearts a decade back. Come on Sachin!! Prove ur eternity!!!
The next thing is that the U-19 World cup is going on and its going to come to an end tomorrow with India facing the Proteas. India have lost in the last 2 editions of the World cup, in the finals against Pakistan. So, I really hope that they break the jinx with Pakistan out of the foray now. India, having beaten South Africa pretty comprehensively, in the league matches, are the favorites. But, Proteas having ousted Defending champions Pakistan are brimming with confidence. So, its gonna be a clash of the MINI titans!! Hope they make a good contest out of it!!
Next up, We have got the project review coming up and so, we need to make some studying stuff in order to perform well in our final review. Finally, our MC exam is on monday. Luckily, I have got hold of a book. So, hoping to pass the subject as well!!! Finally, ma bro is visiting us with his wife n baby. Its gonna be a party time tomorrow for me!! So, hope the events go on well and the sunday stands apt for the title that I have given.

Well. Its been a really really long time since I blogged about something. But, since, I have gotten less or no ideas of what to blog, so, I have enough reasons not to blog for so long, yet, since I don't have any valid reasons for not blogging regularly and this is not at all good for a blogger, I thought I need to blog about something, if not nothing.
The past week has been a horrible one for me. Complete boredom to the core!!! The monday was a no different. The same ol' monday with the same old classes. Felt like I was in a bedroom, the whole day. Tuesday was OD for us. We went to Valliammai and bagged the 1st and 3rd places in DumbC. Fcuk!! We missed the 2nd place due to some poor guessing by meself and Rama. Time to get back to business I thought. Then, the next day sucked!!! We went to APEC. Don't ask me the expansion. There, we lost in a stupid quiz and got the 3rd place although we deserved more than that. The quiz was of such a high quality that even the QED would have flopped big time against the winners!!! Then, we did an Adzap in a wholly unsatisfactory manner, but were able to impress the judges. Thursday was worser and friday was not to good either as we went to college for a dance selection which took place for no longer than 20mins. We stayed from morning till evening for those 20mins and mostly I spent time in sleeping here and there. Our class, Lab and almost where ever we went. But, had a good time in teasing our friends too not to forget the dance of a 3rd yr girlie. Sooooooper!!! And, whats worse!!! Today I went for a match against 2nd years. We lost the first match. And I was feeling worse, so left home only to discover that I was suffering from Pyrexia. Had a nice sleep till evening. Then, felt better after seeing the movie Saamy on sun tv and then rounded it off with some usual chats and right now totally engrossed in listening to some songs. The last good thing actually!!! Hope, the next week gets better.

IPL which was formed just to tackle the competition of ICL is proving to be a big head turner with their amazing tranfers. Glenn McGrath and Michael Hussey have been bought for US$350,000 by Delhi and Chennai respectively. McGrath went at his base price while Hussey was bought for US$100,000 more.

Breaking his silence over his omission from India's ODI team, Sourav Ganguly on Monday said that it was "disappointing" because his One-day record is next best after Sachin Tendulkar, but he had "accepted" the selectors' decision.

A reticent former Indian captain was unwilling to be drawn into any discussion on his being ignored but even then his hurt shows. "I am disappointed just like any other cricketer in not being a part of the One-day side as I had a great year last year and my One-day record is probably the next best after Sachin. It is disappointing but then I have accepted it", he said.

Ganguly refused to answer questions about reports that he and Rahul Dravid were left out of the ODI team on the insistence of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. "I do not want to talk about it," he said.

Following are the other points made by the elegant left hander who was named alongwith Sachin Tendulkar as the BCCI's "players for the period October 07 to January 08" for their exploits in the Test series against Pakistan at home and against Australia Down Under.

On whether experience should be sacrificed for youth and whether India was going in the right direction in preparing for the 2011 World Cup:

"I know my answer, but I keep it with myself. I must say that 2011 World Cup is still a long way away. But I have a lot of faith in (chief selector) Dilip Vengsarkar somebody whom I respect quite a lot and I am sure good things will happen under him."

How many years the 'golden four' of Indian cricket -- Sachin Tendulkar, himself, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman -- expect to play?

"It is difficult to say how many more years we all will play. It depends on performance, because that's what matters in cricket."

On the general view that he could play for at least another three years:

"It all depends on performance".

Does the Indian team need a coach since it has performed well without one and whether Indian cricket had learnt any lessons from the Greg Chappell episode?

"The team has got Gary Kirsten as the coach. He was with us in Australia during the last two Test matches and we look forward to exciting times ahead with him. Regarding the Greg Chappell episode, I do not want to talk about it.

On whether he has spoken to Chappell after his remarkable comeback or if he has any plans to speak to him:

"I do not want to raise the Greg Chappell issue again".

How does he rate Anil Kumble as a captain and what are his strengths?

"I think he has done fantastically well as the captain. His strength is his man management skills and the tremendous confidence he has in his players".

Has he spoken to Shah Rukh Khan, who wants him to be the captain of the Kolkata team in the Indian Premier League?

"I have not spoken to Shah Rukh Khan yet. Let me speak to him and then we will see where it goes.

About the recent acrimony between Indian and Australian players:

"I really do not want to talk about it much because a lot of things have been spoken and done. It's good that they have all gone back to cricket because that's what matters at the end of the day".

Whether unruly behaviour by players can be checked by tough umpires:

"I think the umpires are tough in the field now a days. But sometimes certain things happen at the heat of the moment and the best thing is to sort it out amicably".

Use of technology in umpiring:

"I think there should be a balance of technology in the umpires’ role. But we must realise that we all make mistakes and mistakes will happen always. As a cricketer, I feel that if the field umpires get a bit of help in the matter of the front foot no ball from the technology as they have in tennis, that they can concentrate and look only towards the batsman and that can reduce mistakes, because things happen fast in the cricket field".

After the kollywood celebrity,Jothika gave birth to a beautiful baby girl a few months back, it is now turn for bollywood to show that it is in the race as well when Farah Khan, the famous Bollywood director and choreographer gave birth to triplets today at Mumbai's Jaslok hospital. Farah had one son and two daughters by Caesarian section.
She had married Shirish Kunder, who was the editor of the film Main Hoon Na in 2004 and in an interview to The Times of India had confessed to being shocked that she was pregnant at 43.

Cricket -> played with the right spirit??

Cricket was invented by the English and for long, it has been called as a Gentleman's game. But as the days flew, it became a game that was professionally fought and in the present scenario, it has become one of the most ugly games. In the past decade or so, Cricket has undergone a very very lean patch. A lean patch is usually undergone by a cricketer, but in this case, what I have observed is that the game itself has undergone a lean patch of sorts. The umpiring standards have hit a new low and instead of questioning the umpires, it is now time to question the spirit of cricketers.

What happened at the Sydney test match was a good example of players playing with bad spirit. The Aussies are always used to playing cricket the hard way. The biggest question arises usually when a batsman is given out when it seems pretty unsure whether the fielder had caught the ball cleanly or not. There have been many examples of a fielder faking a catch and this happens with most of the teams. So, the spirit of the fielder is typically bad.

One of the biggest question arises when a batsman, having nicked the ball, instead of walking, stands his ground, and waits for the umpire to make a decision. I feel that this is not at all good for cricket. So far, I have seen just a few cricketers walking after they think they have nicked the ball. They include, Adam Gilchrist, Sachin Tendulkar, Graeme Smith and some other Indian players too. Graeme smith went one better above the others when he walked for a lbw decision. Seemed hilarious but true. There have been many players like Symonds, Steve Waugh and a few others who have always stood their ground instead of walking.

Today, I witnessed a match which was eventually won by India who beat Australia in a ODI in MCG after 21 years. Indeed a great achievement. But, I din't feel proud of this win though I am an ardent Indian fan for the past 5 years or so. This was because, Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest and most gentlemanesque cricketer nicked a ball but din't walk. This made me feel really bad although he deserved this wrong decision as he has been suffering for a long time because of bad decisions. Usually, he is a sort of batsman who walks when he feels that he has nicked it. But, maybe, today he din't because of the fact that he hadn't realized that he had nicked it because it was the faintest edges and he was going for an expansive shot. I have also witnessed quite a few decisions like this and most of them featured an Aussie which is one of the biggest insults to one of the greatest teams. So, now, I am almost sure that the spirit of cricket will be questioned. So, what do you people think about this? Is it right, on the part of a batsman to walk if he feels that he has nicked the ball? Have your say!! Cheers!! Btw, Men in Blue rocked today!! They rock forever!!!

Bye Bye Polly... We Miss U!!!

This year 2008 has been a big year as far as Cricket is concerned. It started off with a bang and now its that time of the year when cricket fans are filled with great emotions and feelings. Many cricketing greats have retired from international cricket recently. It was Gilly first. Now, its time to bid a warm farewell for another great legend that the cricketing fraternity can feel proud of. His name is Shaun Maclean Pollock.
This bowling all rounder, born in Port Elizabeth, has been a precious possession for the Protean team since his debut in 1995. Since then, he has been the bowling mainstay for the Proteas along with lethal paceman white lightning Allan Donald. This pace combo was really deadly. He is considered to be one of the cleanest and straightest bowler in international cricket. He has always demanded high respect from his team mates as well as his opponents. Such as been his modesty and attitude which must be applauded. He was a good lower order batsman too and has given some really wonderful contributions with the bat and ball alike and has saved the Proteas on many occasions. HE is also one of the most economical bowlers in test as well as the ODI cricket. He has also achieved the unique triple of scoring over 3000 runs in tests as well as ODI's and also taking more than 300 wickets in both forms of the game. He was also a successful captain but lost his captaincy after the dismal show in 2003 World Cup. He has proven the World that he is in fact one of the best allrounders in cricket. More than a great cricketer, he is a Great Human Being.

The main thing about this man is that he has been so humble and respectful that even the Pakistanis will like him. His sportiveness and his humour has also been one of the biggest positives for him making him one of the most lovable players in the World. So, this day marks the end of a very very illustrious career of a true legend. When asked about the reason for his retirement, He stated that "I realise I have been blessed by God and feel I have nurtured my talents to the best of my abilities." After South Africa sealed a series victory against the West Indies, Graham smith paid tribute to Pollock, stating "It's very important that people celebrate what he's given to South African cricket and what he's achieved as an individual." So, lets bid goodbye to one of the most lovable cricketers that we have ever seen. Bye Bye Polly.. WE MISS U!!!

In my pursuit of making my blog sponsor free, I have been trying for various ideas in order to write general posts as my brain has become Temporarily out of service. It was then, that I found this way of coming out of the nutshell. My friend Raja started this thing called tagging. So, this provided me with some ideas to write general posts. I convey my regrets to Boopathi because I couldn't complete his tag since I had little or no experiences on the topic that he tagged me with. Now, more recently, Bala, the upcoming PR 2 blogger has tagged me with this topic. Thanks to Bala for providing me with this unique idea. But, of course, some of these predictions may be wrong to the best of his/her knowledge. So, I would start with my post rightaway. One more thing is that, I haven't restricted myself to my class CSE "B" alone. Instead, I have included all of my friends in this post. This post is mainly aimed at kindling the nerves in you and so you are free to feel offended, insulted and everything. If you wanna show your anger on me, please consult the topic patent holder Mr.Bala. First time in 3 1/2 years!!!

Today, a weird incident took place. This hasn't happened to me even once in these 3 1/2 years of engineering. Wonder what went wrong today. I am still wondering how I did this? How could I be so "Out of the world"? Was I dreaming all the way? No way!! I know I wasn't. But, really this is something embarrassing and I hope it doesn't happen again. Thank God that this was witnessed only by a few lot. Guess what was the incident... I will post it soon. ;)

Seminar time...

Its a hectic final year for us. The projects are hitting us from one end where as on the other end are the stupid lectures. All the classes are so very boring. We have finally decided on the project which is on query analyser. But the head ache is the seminars in mobile computing. The staff is so strict that the hour totally sucks. Each week, 3 students have to take seminar. Now, this is totally waste of time. We would rather study these subjects staying at home rather than attend these stupid lectures. So, Im praying that these come to an end soon.

Veerapaandi Kottayile --> Oru kannottam

This pongal has to be one of the best and most memorable and the.. Oh oh.. Im running out of superlative adjectives!! One of the greatest experiences that we ever had in life. We celebrated Pongal in our friend Professor a.k.a Thangam a.k.a Karupaiyah a.k.a Arun's house in Veerapandi, Theni district. We had 4 full days of complete excitement coupled with enjoyment coupled with sentiment along with some great entertainment as well.

Cast: Arun, Arun's parents and grandparents, Srinivasan, Aarthi, Mahesh, Raja, Sambashiva, Satheesh, Vijay, Santhosh and APPU.

Locations : Chennai, Theni, Veerapandi, Cumbum, Suruli, Andipatti, Vaigai dam.

We started on 13th night by 7.15pm by a S.E.T.C ultra deluxe bus and reached theni by 8am in the morning. From there, we reached Veerapandi in another bus. As his house was a bit far from the bus stand, we had to take an auto to reach his place. IT was a typical village full of houses built very close to each other and a different looking, well painted house greeted us and we knew evidently that it was Arun's house. We were greeted with glee by his parents. We went and did our bathing stuff and were served with hot dosas. After eating our breakfast, we decided to go to Suruli theertham -> A waterfalls in Theni district. His mom meanwhile had prepared a pot full of tamarind rice for us to keep ourselves and our mouths busy whenever we felt like eating. There were two places, one was the Chinna suruli which all people preferred to take bath in and the other one was some feet higher than the previous one which not many people preferred to climb too, as it was too steep and dangerous too. But, we decided to invade the territory and so, we began to climb our way up. Staggering and stuttering, we finally conquered the place and we decided to take a bath in the waterfalls there. We din't have much problems while taking bath apart from the fact that the stones were too slippery because of algae content. It was then that a dreadful incident took place. A guy from another group who was overexcited just took a wrong step and eventually slipped and in the process, tripped mahesh and his head was caught between the stone and the bums of Mahesh. He suddenly began to hold his face and to our horror we noticed that his upper eyelids were cut badly and blood was oozing out. So, we decided to call it quits for the day and climbed down again. Then, we had a nice filling of Tamarind rice, while Kudi and Arun went and had a filling of sambar and rasam rice served by a group of religious people. Then we left home and reached there at around 6pm.

Next day, I was the first to wake up and so, what I did was, team up with Arun's brother Seenu and sent the pet cutie puppy Appu to wake up the other gentlemen who were still in deep slumbers at around 8am dawn. Appu did justice to his job and it was Sano first and Raja next, scampering from bed and woke up. That day was Pongal incidentally. The festive atmosphere was already on, as different games were conducted from 6am by the Sports Association of Veerapandi. We played cricket against a local team and the series was squared at 1-1. Then, We decided to go to take a bath in the Mullai river on that day. So, we left at around 12.30 to Mullai river, only after devouring on some delicious meals cooked by Arun's loving mom. Although I was a bit reluctant in taking a bath in the river as I had already taken a bath in the morning, I couldn't resist myself after seeing the other guys playing in the river. So, all of us jumped into the river and in a few minutes, were doing some amazing stunts in the river which was flowing very fast. Mahesh, Sano, Arun and Seenu left the river very soon but meself and the remaining brats persisted to stay in the river and we took some adventurous photographs in some very dangerous and adventurous places in the river. Then, after we had had enough for the day, we walked back to our destination. Then, we left to the Karupusaamy temple and were served with sweet Pongal after some poojas. Then, we went and had a look at a hilarious Kabaddi match between Idhaya Nila and Winson. Winson won the match by just 1 point. Some entertainment was provided by Compounder and the commentator. Then we reached home and dozed off..

The next day, as usual, Appu woke us up and we decided to go to Arun's groves which involved coconut groves and also paddy fields and sugarcane fields and so on. We were astonished to see Arn's young grandpa, just 85 yrs old, working in the fields. Young at heart and younger physically too. Amazing!! He treated us with delicious tender coconut water and also some sweet coconut. Then, we had a nice nap in the coconut grove. Then, we also had some photos snapped there. Then, we went back home. It was mattu pongal which was celebrated with enthusiasm in Veerapandi. So, a pooja was conducted and his Cow and its calf were felicitated. Then, we were treated with some good Pongal. Then, we went to the next street where his uncle was conducting the same pooja. There, bulls were also felicitated. There, again, we had some pongal and we reached home to find idlis. Whoa!! But, we ate that too and finally went to bed after watching Manmadhan.

The next day was going to be our last day of stay at Veerapandi. By then, the whole family had become so close to us. We went to Vaigai dam and did all childish activities and also had some photo shoots in various locations in the dam. Then, we left home. Arun;s mom showed some photo albums and she also explained the various relations of their family which we couldn't remember at all. Good memory she had. Then, we gifted the FM radio which we had bought for Arun's sister who accepted it with glee and happiness. Then, we watched Manjuvirattu, where the temple bull was released. No one could stop it as it ran like a raging bull. In fact, it was a raging bull. Then, we bade goodbye to our family members and reached theni. His father accompanied us. He bought the tickets for us and we got placed in our buses. Then, we left home.

This marked the end of a great trip to Veerapandi. Although we missed a lot, we were actually happy with what we got, what we enjoyed on those 4 days. We will be back there in the month of May for the bigger event, Thiruvizha,. Until then, we will truly miss their family. In fact, Our family.

Jallikattu

Inspite of the ban from the supreme court on the Jallikattu a.k.a Manjuvirattu, the people continued to conduct it in various parts of Tamilnadu. Also, the people in Alanganallur appealed over the issue and the supreme court finally gave in, by allowing them to conduct the age old sport but with tight security. In spite of that, many people were injured and quite a few lost their lives. So, the age old sport also ended the lives of age old and young men alike.

Proteas seal victory!!

So, after the unexpected loss at Port Elizabeth at the hands of the young visiting Windies, the Proteas are back with a bang. They beat the Windies comprehensively in the 2nd test at Capetown by 7 wickets. Prince was the man of the match, then. The 3rd test at Durban completed today with the Proteas proving to be too hot to handle. The match ended in 3days itself. That was a stunning performance by the bowlers first up when they bundled out the Windies for a paltry 139 in the first innings. Then, they did well to score a mammoth 556 with 3 of their batsmen registering centuries. Then, in the 2nd innings, the Windies were bowled out for 317 with Samuels scoring a good century. Steyn was the wrecker in chief as he stunned the Windies by taking 6 wickets in his fiery spell of bowling. So, with this win, the Proteas won the series 2-1 comprehensively.
